Richard Tyner
Richard is a long-time member of the State of Franklin Track Club and his involvement includes:
District 2 Area Representative 2016, 2017, 2018
Hall of Fame Chairman from 2018 onset to present – maintaining nominee list of names with associated bios used for Hall of Fame selection each year.
Updated the SFTC Timing Application in 2017 which is in use today.
Did the SFTC timing & results for the Sept 9, 1995 (top 3 runners were all under 15:00) & the Sept 7, 1996 Autumn Chases 5K races which at the time were among the largest participant races in the Tri-Cities.
Along with wife, Ranette Tyner, SFTC King & Queen Coordinator in 1992 & 1993.
In the 1980’s twice Kingsport Jaycees July 4th Race Director which was one of the earliest area races.
Frequent club volunteer photographer at races, SFTC track meets, and for the past ten years at the SFTC Award Banquets
Frequent club volunteer each year for races that SFTC puts on and times such as: Summer Track Meets, New Year’s Day Race, Tennessee State Park Tour Races, Duck Island Mile Races, Bridge and Trestle, etc.
Became one of the SFTC Facebook Admins on December 21, 2022
Running achievements include:
Completed 11 marathons, which includes completing the SFTC Virginia Creeper Marathon 5 times. Fastest PR marathon time was at the 1990 Seattle Goodwill Games Marathon in 3:28
Completed three (3) 50K races: Silver Comet 50K on February 19, 2005 in 5:49, Frosty Fifty 50K on January 6, 2007 in 5:57, and New River 50K on October 10, 2009 in 5:25.
Beginning in 1981 with the first Funfest Race and as of August 2022 have run 31 of the 41 Funfest Races which includes 24 of the Crazy 8’s races. Fastest time was 30:08 for the 1984 Funfest Midnight 5 Miler.
Beginning in 1980 with the first Eastman 10K race, ran 33 of the total 38 Eastman 10K races.
Ran the Peachtree July 4th 10K road race 14 times beginning in 1971.
Ran the Bridge & Trestle Race 21 times beginning in 1991 with a time of 2hr16:52.
Other Service activities include:
Warriors’ Path State Park Friends of Warriors’ volunteer 2016 to present helping with playground repairs and Mountain Bike Trail maintenance.
