Harriet Locke was a beloved member of the State of Franklin Track Club who passed away on May 4, 2015. She was one of the early founders of the club. Locke won the Queen of the Road title a club-record 12 times (1983, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006).

Locke holds an astounding 23 Tennessee State Age Running Records from one mile to half marathon as follows:

1 Mile ages: 78, 79

5K ages: 78, 79, 81

8K ages: 77, 78, 79, 80, 81

10K ages: 78, 79, 80, 81, 82

10 Mile ages: 73, 74, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81

Half Marathon age: 74

Locke was the club’s Bristol Representative (1989 – 1990) and Secretary (1999 – 2002). Locke was twice Ms. Mileage Winner (2004, 2006). She won the Most Persistent Runner Award 1988. She was also the first-place female in the Frontier Racing Series 2012.

During Harriet Locke’s life, she ran and completed 19 marathons around the world. As of 2010 she had run over 700 races. She was a school teacher for 30 years. She served as a Peace Corps educator in Nepal and the Philippines 1992 – 1997, during which time she mentored new Peace Corps volunteer teachers.

Locke segment hiked the entire Appalachian Trail.

Accepting Harriet Locke’s Hall of Fame award were her daughters, Barbara McCary and Sarah Fleenor.
